The blue is a peacock and the white by size I believe is also a peacock. If you can take some photos of the whites legs and particularly the back of both legs may help confirm my thoughts. Is the white as tall as the blue? not body size just as tall?

Re the question of who is the tallest white or blue its very hard to call as the white one is a bigger bird so may stand higher than the blue one.

We attempted to take a few photos of the legs pls see below

I spoke to the breeder today who has sold all her young birds so we can not swap one of them, so will two boys be happy together ? Wont they wont to go walk about during the season to find mates ? When we move them in at night if we do not bring both at once they start calling for each other I cant see how I can separate them now. Saying that they are so tame and very relaxed with us around.

Thank you so much for all your help.

Mark & Louise

Differences in size at this age don't mean much, you'll just have to wait it out and see what happens.

We have decide to sit and wait, we do not feel we can separate the two birds while they are so young.

If we end up with two boys then we can buy a hen latter and offer one of the boys for sale. Knowing how hard it was to find these guys I am sure we could find a happy home for one of the boys particularly as they have been hand raised.

Thank you to everyone for there help, it was a learning experience for us.

Regards,

Mark & Louise

Yes it does actually all white hens are smaller than any blue particularly in leg length that is why I asked about height. IF the white is already larger and assuming they are the same age then it's a peacock.

You don't need to separate them just get yourself a hen or 2 in a few months time

Zach,

I think we will keep both of the boys and then get two girls one each. This is so crazy as we only really wonted one and know we could end up with four.

If we are going to get two more it wont be until we are 100% sure on the white one (boy/girl) so I assume that will be 12 months at which time we would buy a 2 girls the same age as the boys. Both the boys carry the white gene (the blue has some white feathers) maybe we should get some different types of girls, green, black shoulder or something else.

One last question do you guys as professional breeders what is the lead time for ordering to get 2 quality birds ?

For now we will enjoy [smilie=imslow.gif] watching them grow up and worry about this problem latter.

Many thanks th_clap.gif

Mark & Louise

Please do not get a green hen and pair it with either male :( , as this would be cross breeding and wasting what good green hens we have left here in Aus  , i dought that someone would sell just a single female anyway, most people with good birds usually only sell as pairs and maybe spare cocks but usually never lone hens ;)
As for the black-shoulder hen, sorry but they are not in Australia, we only have Blues, Pied, White and Split  .

Hi Zach,

To be honest we would not get ANY bird without first seeking advise from you guys in APF.

This is all new to us and we are learning every day, every one started once as a novice and thats why we have joined this fourm to learn and try and not make mistakes. I take note of your advise re the hen.

For now we can sit back and wait.

Regards,

Mark & Louise
