Sorry to read about your mishap. All the advice given in this topic is excellent especially from love peafowl it doesn't come any better than that and the time he took to give such detail deserves 3 of these a_bravo.gif a_bravo.gif a_bravo.gif . Your chances of see him again is 1% and that is not because he is an adult as it would be the same for a young one but because he is terrified of you and everyone else. You don’t have to buy young peafowl to succeed you just have to do it right anyone that tells you or suggest you can't buy adult peafowl and successfully re-home them doesn't know what they are talking about. Anyone that tells you or suggests it will stay just because the hen is in the cage also doesn't know what they are talking about. You can as many have done buy fully mature peafowl and re-home them and they can live happily ever after.

read PA's web site and read this forum it has the best info on the internet.

This is the advice I will give you also, don't waste your time on sites that have no idea what they are talking about it will only make your situation worse and you will make so many more mistakes from terrible amateur advice.

George

I DID do it all right, I had plans to keep them enclosed for 6 months! Its just that the wire on one side where it appeared tight, was not, there was NO way to tell it was not secure in that spot. Bird was not provoked in any way to charge the wall, it was a freakish scenario, they were very calm. Lady is still very calm....I dont know did the cow go moo or someting...who knows??

Calm down  no one has suggested you deliberately let him out. As an absolute rule ALL new peafowl will fly up in their coop/run/pen whatever term you use it is normal and understandable as they want to get away from humans that just moved them from their home. So checking the roof is the most important and one you now know. There are countless thousands of posts on APF that will help you understand peafowl and ALL you need to know about them is here, I suggest you spend some time HERE on APF reading up and getting the right help and advice after all it’s the best poultry forum ;) and that’s no red bull ;)

Have a good day

you cheeky sod "red bull comment" You been reading my posts on B Y P eh?

Just did a patrol, no sight of him, lovely creature but oh so unfaithful!

Im in a better frame of mind today..... is a bird, Ill survive..... Ill find another...do you think he could fly 24kms back to his home.... as the crow flies, (or should I say peacock), it would be about 20kms...

Should I ring the owner and double check, Im embarrassed.....

A mate sent me a link to a damsel in distress that needed urgent help I just clicked the link without reading it and it took me to 'that' site {he did apologize latter} so I did have a read of the comments and wow so much bad advice and general rubbish {guess that’s one of the down sides to the internet} good thing you came here. Peafowl are excellent flyers and can easily fly 20-30 km so yes it is possible but not likely. Yes ring the previous owner and tell them what happened and ask them to keep an eye out as he may make it back there although unlikely. They may also offer you another one if they have more? But don’t forget to check the roof ;)

P.s No need to be embarrassed it was an accident and they happen

George

I have heard of a full flock being given to someone who lives near me , They let them out the next week 'assuming' they'd hang around , The whole flock flew back to there owner at Cooyar , Well over 24 kms , I believe it to be true  PS they are still there
Hope you get your male back .

I rang the seller, told him what happened, said he'd keep an eye out, but in between him and us there is a massive wild flock of peacocks in Craignish (between Burrum heads and Dundowran(where seller lives) ) and its highly likley he will be attracted by their calls, there are LOADS there!!! Not being breeding season, he isnt interested in the girl and he was never mated with her....

In any case I have two new babies today, from Caboolture, what a hell of a drive, they are so teeny, dont know if boy or girl, time will tell.....

Cheers, Rita

he's back.,.,,.the buggar is back!

Now, he's scratching around near the peahen eating, scoping out the joint, we put plenty of bird seed variety mix in a big pile for him to see and we wait, be nice if the rain would bloody well stop! Each time it starts he goes to hide under a tree! Getting closer, and closer.....

patience patience.....

Amazing that he has returned! [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif] [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif] [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif] [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif]
