HELP ME PLEASE...Im devestated! I got an adult pair this morning, put them in the coop, which I though was secure and it wasnt...the boy has flown up into a tree. very high up! Im so distraught..what can I do???

The lady is in the coop. I can see him in the tree next door, HIGH HIGH up..... He is a BIG bird....

I only got him this morning....I cant believe my luck after searching for so long for a peacock.....

We have rigged a trap, with fishing line and a portable coop, lifted by a stick and food underneath, right next to the peahens housing..... we now have to watch like birdwatchers and pull the fishing line so the coop drops over him.

Will he come back??? He is used to free ranging durin the day and coming in at night...where he used to live 24kms away.

HELP HELP [smilie=a_cry.gif] [smilie=a_help.gif]

Ok here’s what you need to do.

1) At FIRST light tomorrow morning you need to put the hen in a smaller cage inside the coop and put the cage in the middle of the coop making sure the peacock can see her from ALL sides so in other words make sure the cage is all wire.

2) spread a good quantity of grain in front of the cage the hen is in, make sure it’s a big spread and VERY visual to the peacock. Make sure he has to go inside to get the food DONT PUT ANY FOOD OUTSIDE, VERY IMPORTANT.

3) Open the door as wide as you can of the coop. attach a string to the door so you can close the door from a BIG distance away. Make sure you attach the string at least half way up the door so the peacock is not spooked by the string.

4) Do not go any ware near the peacock when he comes down from the tree. Don’t let your dogs [if you have any] go any ware near him, you must leave him alone.

Some don't.

Don’t chase him under ANY circumstances
Don’t try to round him up
Don’t feed or water him, if he wants food or water then he needs to go INSIDE the coop

Some does.

Be patient it may take days for him to come down from the tree
Be prepared he may fly away 50/50 is realistic at best as he is very stressed and has been through an ordeal. Just remember it takes week for peafowl to get over an ordeal like being moved ect.. They have very good memories and hold a grudge.
Keep your finger crossed

IF and I do mean IF you get him back and you plan to free range him eventually make sure you don’t let them out for several months and read PA's web site and read this forum it has the best info on the internet.

GOOD LUCK gluck.gif keep us up to date please

I really hope you get him back, my fingers and toes are crossed for you gluck.gif gluck.gif

Water , well, thats going to be a problem cos we have a massive dam.

The peahen is in the coop with 3 guinea fowl.... ???

The door is hard to move unless you lift and move it, so problem there already.

You mean to say he could sit in that tree for days? He can go that long with no food or water?

I tried to make the transition very smooth.

This just sucks so bad.... :( th_Noooo.gif

I could relocate the guinea fowl in a portable coop for the time being, Ihave a spare chook dome.

He won't drink from the dam. I have a dam and they won’t ever drink from it.
Take the 3 guinea fowl out at FIRST light at put them some ware else, they shouldn't be in with them anyway.
Can you fix the door to make it close easier?
Yes he can stay up the tree for 2 or 3 days without eating or drinking.

i can do all but the door, its a temp door and its just poxy and impossible to move unless its lifted and then swung open.

Everything else, is a can do

I could try removing that door and place a net that I can somehow attach to a stick which in turn is attached to wire from far away.. this is highly technical! Then wait, of course I have nothing else better to do.... Its just the door faces away from the house, so technically difficult to achieve... Thinking about it, even that wont work...... must think more.....

Your only other option is to rush the door when he's in but you would have to approach from in front of the door so can you hide a distance away in front of the door?

It would need to be a good 10-20 meters away and you MUST hide as right now he hates ALL humans

No you’re not useless, these things happen so don’t beat yourself up over it, the key now is focusing on try to get him back in the coop and it is possible.
