What breed is this duck?

I found this duck egg lying on the ground at a local produce store and decided to take it home and put it under the chook and now I have this very pretty little duck. You can't really see it in the photos but every single one of it's feathers where it is black turns purple,blue and green in the sun. Can anyone tell me what breed this duck is?

Looks like a black duck cross breed maybe with mallard?

It's too big to be a Black Duck cross/ Mallard and we don't have any mallards near here and there are none near the produce. The only wild ducks I saw at the produce were Pacific Black Ducks and Australian Wood Ducks. But this duck is too big to be a cross between them. It about twice as big as one of those ducks.

When I first saw the pictures I thought it might be crossed with a muscovy, but now I'm not so sure. It might be that you'll never know, although next moult might bring something interesting.

Yeah well see I was kinda thinking something along that or cayuga? Because all it's feathers have a sheen to them. But I have no idea have not seen any ducks at the produce. I also found a chicken egg while I was there too and there are HEAPS of chickens; frizzles, araucana's, ameracauna, rhode island, black commercial, pekin etc... there are lots! So now we have this little white chicken(or rooster) that was born white with one grey spot and now it is white and grey spotted everywhere. I hope the duck is a female sounds like one.

Which produce place are you talking about..I'd love to go and have a look. The only chooks you 'might' see at a produce store on the gold coast are commercial layers :roll:

Oh the produce has heaps of chickens and roosters but the ones running around aren't for sale they have been handed over by owners who couldn't keep them. They sell black and red commercial occasionally they sell ducks I got one runner there once but I have never seen ducks running around Only locked up tight or ducklings in pens. They do have geese running around but this is not a goose :lol:
