Silver Pheasants

I have seen an add on farmstock for silver pheasants the add below. I paid $120 for my top quallity breeding pair and the chap I got my pair from had several pairs or more so I wonder why this bloke wants $300 and he reckons they are rare? Or is it just a sales pitch? I thought they were common?

Must sell breeding pair silver pheasants due to lack of time. This is a regretfull sale but they must go. Very rare birds. $300 the pair

Just marketing the seller is just after all he can get.

Many people are prepared to pay whatever it takes if they realy want something.

I saw a pair of Ringneck Pheasants sell for $170 at auction once, then at another auction not long after ringnecks were $35 pair.

Silver Pheasants are not rare there are allot of breeders all over the country with them and breeding them so it’s nothing more than a sales ploy for over price birds so just ignore that sort of bull sh-t.

Ok so they are not that rare. But what about sellers or breeders are they rare? Where do I start after I build my pheasant pen. Something I have been thinking for a very long time.

Sellers or breeders are not rare there are bucket load of breeders out there with all the good ones on this forum. To answer your second question you have already made a good start you have come here. If you have questions we have the answers!

Thanks for your thoughts on this, I was never going to reply to the advert way too expensive compared to what everyone else is asking, just thought it was strange. Perhaps the seller doesn't know they are not rare maybe they are just a novice keeper that was just told that when he/she got them and they paid too much?

Good to hear! I will ask more questions after when I build a suitable pen :-D

And no that was not my ad. But I did see it too. I remember it saying something about being pure, so does that mean if not careful one can purchase some hybrids or cross's ? would the non pures look more differently to the originals? sorry I'm only a chook person still learning about pheasants.

Even the yearling breeder will know a hybrid from pure at 4 miles away especially when it come to silver pheasants ALL hybrids look nothing like the pure breed not even close. Go to page 7 of the site and you will see what I mean.

Hi Flockpheasant , I have been looking to purchase a female silver pheasant, (female died and have lonely male), Brisbane/Toowoomba area however these seems a limited number of breeders or available stock for sale. So not sure there are plenty of breeders. Are you able to advise on any breeders in my area.
Also am looking for Swinhoe (need Male), Golden and Lady Amherst
I am also surpised by the prices somepeople are asking. But if you are new to the game, and are finding it hard to find birds, I guess you will pay what is asked if they are the only birds for sale. This can only become a cycle of high prices as peolpe will sell for what they purchased birds at.
