All I'll say is PA's reverse java pied is sensational.

Oh I meant to add

[quote Pam ]For Drew and EJ specifically, "erstwhile" means "used to be" or "once was" and refers to a person who used to have the purest JG line in Australia and sell to private collectors, zoos, etc. Cheers, Pam[endquote]

I know what you mean I had the purest chickens but because of a change in circumstances I had to farm them out too ;) now everyone has them, well chickens that is

[quote Pam ]I think nearly 40 years of breeding counts for something, don't you?
Cheers, Pam[end quote]

Sure do, nearly 42 for me :-D :-D that counts for more :-D
Cheers Drew Smith

Sorry, didn't mean to sound competitive! I was only talking about JGs. Are you a breeder of JGs as I have a friend who is desperate to get some? Pam

[quotehutchy] Hopefully they will both have a good year this year as the birds are some of the best I have seen around.[endquote]

So you've seen these alleged java’s hutchy, do you have pictures? Have you seen many around to compare? So both you & Pam know about these two people, interesting!! This is an interesting topic :-D
Cheers Drew Smith

I have never seen a pure JG in the flesh and am not likely to as Vic is not a known home for them!!!! I did know where a supposedly pure male was in Vic as the owner advertised hybrids in the Weekly Times last year. I am not really interested in them as they have to be penned or that is what I thought. I wondered how Mike Crilley's cock got killed by the dog if it were in a pen.

I also do not know the guy who used to breed the pure JGs but know of him through reputation. His pied birds that Hutchy talks about are I assume the ones that can be seen on the web and are there for all to see on the Parrots Australia website. The only thing is that Hutchy said they were $500 to $1000 and I didn't think they were as dear as that. I was directed to the site by a Victorian girl who wanted to buy some pieds from me and she asked me if mine were like that. I said in all honesty "No, I wish!" They are amazing. As I am looking to buy some I would be stupid if I didn't check up on him. It would take me years to get that amount of white into my pieds, so I would like to shorten the process if I can. If one asks around one usually can find out a bit about someone as it is quite a small world in the peacock world. The guy is a very private person but his reputation is very good. But his birds are all there on the web for anyone to see. It is just sad that there were a few things that has made it difficult for him to continue.

It would be good if we could all keep moving forward and trust each other and help a bit more I think!!!

Pam I have attached a photograph of one of my birds that I purchased from a bloke in Adelaide and it is an example of some of the good birds I have seen around. Although I am saying they are some of the best I have seen I still do not say they are pure. There are very few pure Javans in Australia that have unpolluted blood. Drew I have seen quiet a few Javans, some have been shockers and some have been brilliant and as close to the real thing as possible. This is my opinion only. The photograph speaks for itself. I am not unhappy with this bird in my yard. I will go through some of my disks and find some photos of others we looked at before we purchased ours.
Pam I think the pied prices from Parrots Australia depend on the quality of the birds some may be cheaper than the prices I mentioned.
Drew I think the reason people know the same people involved with peacocks is because we talk?? Not really that "interesting" just normal that we all travel in the same circles when we have the same interests. The people with the pieds had a lot of history on birds that are around the place and on the sort of prices that were paid for these birds. Very interesting people with a wealth of knowledge.

Drew we looked at 3 lots in NSW, 1 in VIC, 2 lots in SA and 3 lots in QLD. This is about as far as I go in revealing the whereabouts of the birds. If you are interested in purchasing from these people I can always forward a phone number on as I am sure if they wanted to be revealed on the internet they would place an add. None have trouble getting rid of stock, I am sure of this as I had to wait. Many of these people we met through prior dealings or through the Pheasant and Waterfowl Association. No puzzles here Drew, you wanted a photograph, I gave you one and I am sure I will give you more photos in time as I go through my files from trips we have made. Field trips are always fun fun fun.
Looking as long as we did prices vary according to quality we found, some started from $500- each but the quality didn't seem to be as good as those asking $1000- or more per bird. This is just what we found. We have seen allot of hybrids around.
The biggest shame is that most with these hybrid birds do little to improve there stock by getting better birds in. There is no telling which way the genes fall and an exceptionally good bird could be produced from such hybrids and could go on to be sold through a few different hands to then be sold to someone with reasonably pure stock and then pollute this stock with Indian blue blood. It does seem a shame. I don't know what sort of answer there is to stop this sort of thing from happening. I think it is our duty to try and protect the good lines of Javans we have in the country.
