Should I help them out ???

My eggs from my white pens have finally started to hatch(yesterday) , The first one was pied and came out fairly quickly , the next two seemed to be taking to long and I helped them out , one pied , one plain, They are very healthy , but today one had been cheeping all night through the shell so I cracked it out , (very carefully) it was pure white so I have been carrying it around all day close to me, to keep it warm , It is so beautiful I don't know if I can put it in the brooder with the others just yet, should I be helping them out or should I let nature take its course , I would hate to think they couldn't get through the shell if I could of helped them ,, Thanks Ian

Hi Ian, Generally (under a Hen) you shouldn't assist them, if they are too weak to break out of the shell, they usually don't survive anyway. There are always exceptions to the rule as some Peahens will lay double shelled eggs and then chick will need assistance. If they are in an Incubator then it's likely to be the Humidity is to low, it should be 90(F.)² for the last 3 days. It's quite normal for the chick to peep 24 hours prior to hatching but after that you should look at the Humidity levels.

Thanks Peacocks , I did top the water up about three days ago ,but really don't know how to test the humidity , all of the chicks are very lively and healthy so I think they will be allright , I was probably a bit to impatient so will try to leave them alone from now on, Thanks again Ian

Hi Ian, you need to get a "Humidity Gauge" you can buy them from most pet shops that sell Reptiles. We use Digital Temp/Humidity and find them excellent.

Hi Peacocks , My peachicks are doing great and are becoming spoilt very fast , I would love to send you photos of all of my birds especially my new little special babies ,but I don't know how to do it , I have asked my wife and she has said she is able to email them because this way she has the ability to reduce them , but she doesn't know if she can put them straight on the site as they will be to large , What is the best way to do it as I would love to show off my new babies as all proud fathers do.Thanks Ian
