Info needed please

Hello Grahame,
just out of curiosity what feed do you use which is higher in proten?

I give my birds a mix of 1kg of cook rice mixed with cracked corn,wheat,safflower,oats,chick pea mixed into a 20ltr bucket with water they get that from day olds.If I want them to lay eggs I cut the rice to every 2nd day,a fat chook wont lay.they also get fresh greens every afternoon.This feed come from a book called BOOK OF POULTRY by L WRIGHT.It was printed in 1886.At 1week old they get sulpha-quin to boost ammun to cossidiosis then at 6 weeks oxy mav for CRD.hope this is of some help,GRAHAME

yep thanks Grahame,

Well ive got the worming stuff, ( Ihope its good enough)
the brand is piperazine Solution. (it was there last bottle and i think it only treats round worm??

anyhow.
it has a dosage table but this is per 100 BIRDS!
under 7 weeks 2L water and 40ml piperazine solution
so the question is, do i give them this amount, or drastically reduce it as i only have 2 birds, oh and will this be a good enough wormer (the guy at the store said it would be)

Hi Peter16, Piperazine is really only good for roundworm.

40ml in 2 litres would be the right dose, for less than 7 weeks.

In the future try to get "Sykes Big-L" for Poultry & Pigs. Or Nilverm Pig and Poultry Wormer

Take the water away 4 hours before treating and introduce the wormer on or after 4pm. Only treat for 48 hours maximum, changed every 24 hours.

unfortunatly like i said that was the only one i had left, but ill definatly get one of the brands you suggested next time.

So..deprive the birds of water 4 hours previouse of giving them the wormer and give them the wormer for 48 hours changing it after the 1st 24?
if that is the case ill take there water away 12noon saturday give them the wormer at 4pm.....then the nxt day(sunday) at 4pm give them fresh wormer and then 4pm monday start giving them plain fresh water again......good enough plan????

That sounds good to me :-D

when you take the water away it makes sure they drink the wormer when you give it to them

yeah i read about it in a burkes backyard book, only they suggested take it away for 24hours :shock:

but i think i'll only do it for 4

24 hours is only in the cold months as they don't drink that much.

ahk makes sense, although i thought it was for adult birds as they would drink a little less then chicks would???

Hi Peter16, They do, but in the winter months they can go longer periods and may refuse to drink the wormer.
