What breeds are considered "Rare Breed"?

show girls are rare , but then they are also not in the australian standards are they?

doing my bit for my chosen (rare) breed, have now got 100 japanese if we count the most recent chicks,

I'm going to have a go at de Watermaels this season - I have a black pair and will pick up another pair at the show, b&p - by proxy, anyway, as I'll be overseas. Great holiday, bad timing re the Belgian show.

Yep a friend of mine debbie is getting some white d'Uccles from a nice line so that will help that colour along AND give me birds later down the track.

It really is good to see what the Belg club are doing and the 3 breeders of watermael for that matter with getting these great little birds out into other pens and thus improving the gene pools. I have a delightful hen here I will be using as a complete outcross to help strengthen what others have started.

It is also worth noting for those not aware that the Fairfield Rare Breeds show is on the following weekend (Sun 6th July).

ALL breeders should in my opinion have at least 1 rare breed. Polish are definately making a resurgence of late (I have orders from 4 states). Not to mention the pet yards I placed birds into last season.

If I had more room I certainly would take on yet another breed....might have to move my Black mottleds and black d'Uccles on so I can move some thing else in....................NOT :lol:

I bought a pair at auction a few weeks back (white crested Blacks) but I am unsure of the quality of them - they might be okay, but I don't even know where they came from. I will post some more pics in my album and maybe other Polish breeders can give me some feedback. I guess I need to do some more research into the breed as I don't want to start breeding with stock that have major faults or are way off the standard.

I am looking at some Polish tomorrow , Its a pity you werent a bit closer Deb , The lady I am thinking of getting the Polish off has a lot of Rare breeds , She has just ordered some White Belgians to , So you never know

Showgirls are not in any Standard, they are not recognized as a breed anywhere in the world. Personally the only ones that look in any way reasonable were the original white feathered black skinned ones. Silkie-Polish-Naked Necks. They were supposed to emulate Negro (ups Afro-American) dancers dressed in white feathery costumes. All in the eyes of the beholder.

They're recognised as a breed at my place

and I know a few other people that recognised them as a breed , I wonder if the people that laughed at Buff sussex or coranations before they were "recognised" and gee what about about all those other breeds that are are being developed or re-created I wonder if they will ever be "Recognised" what they would say now..... . Anyway I don't mind I'll keep plugging away with my Showgirls as their is certainly a demand for them with the Rare Breeders and Collectors .

We are talking about "Rare" breeds arent we ? :-?
