Developing new colour varieties

Many breeders work at developing new colour varieties. Quite often these varieties are released long before they have reached an acceptable standard. People buy these fowls in good faith, usually at high prices, and breed from them.
We then get the extraordinary spectacle of those original breeders and their cronies gang tackling the subsequent breeders for releasing an unfinished project.
Should not all the culls from these development programs end up in the freezer?

I think so none should be out until they are finished and ready for market

Yes 100% should be culled to the freezer

I think all mine are the culled rejects doh!

I think there is a difference to selling inferior birds as a genuine article to unsuspected breeders who are just hoping to get a pretty bird to breed with and those who sell off their culled rejects to people who don't want to breed from them, but just want a pretty bird for their flock with no rooster.

i agree if the breeder is passing them off to other breeders who will then go on to sell the next generation of inferior birds, but..... if the breeder sells them as inferior rejects to non-breeders then I say "I disagree".

I can see there is two sides of the coin for the sale of an inferior bird. Each has a degree of importance.

The sale of an inferior bird helps fund the breeder's ability to go another round of getting closer to the "perfect specimen".

The inferior bird gives those who don't wish to purchase "show quality" birds, when they only want a pretty bird for their backyard flock, when really having a show quality bird in someone's back yard flock, would just be a pure shame that someone is not breeding from it and keeping good bloodlines going in this country.

Yes I agree Chicka-Dee.
What I really had in mind was breeders who outcross to a different breed and then sell the progeny as purebred before the new type is fully stabilized.
There are a lot off crossbred birds offered for sale and I don't have a problem with that. I do wonder though why people so often choose to breed mongrels when they have pure birds as the crosses usually don't have much merit.

In my case, as most know, I have no idea about poultry so it was easy for someone to sell me crappy chooks
