Do you remember the first lot of chicks that hatched and we discussed how we thought who were boys and who were girls due to the feathering of the wings.

OK so I am talking about the dark pekin next to the white silkie on the right. I think we all decided it was a girl.

Yesterday and today at all of 4 weeks old I am sure she/he is trying to crow. I will take another photo tomorrow as her/his comb and wattles already seem to be developing.

But 4 weeks old and its trying to crow :!:

I think it is a boy. So that blows feathering on the wings out the window with pekins I reckon. :-?

feather sexing only works if pure breed slow feathering birds are crossed with pure bred fast feathering birds, i can't remember if the its impt which one of the parents is male or female.

if your parent birds were not bred this way, then the wing feather sexing method does not work.

Seems your right CL, all my little pekins were right on what sex i thought but there is one i thought was a she (from wings) and now is a he :roll:

yeah , have had early crowers, not often but do get them----don't keep them though, the early maturing birds often don't end up being the best birds, just an observation, cheers pam

Won't be keeping him anyway Pam. I currently have enough roosters unless there is some one out there wants to give me a gold partridge rooster of course.
