I visited Feathersite and checked out photos of Campines and Japanese Bantams.

Seeing her on a daily basis for a few weeks now, I have to say she doesn't look (to my eyes at least) like any of the photos.

One of the other dumped chooks looks like a leghorn (my non-expert opinion) and someone has laid two small white shelled eggs this week.

Two of the dumped chooks I got have yellow legs (and beaks, etc, etc).

They are still there, i went back last week and spoke to the people in the factory (its called earth nympth) and they feed them most days. I was going to the rspca but thought about what some others had said about wasting resources ect and thought it best to leave them for the moment as they seem to be doing ok.

Hubbys been leaving seed every couple of days as he works around the corner.

I supose the hardest part is catching them as they fly like propper birds, i have never seen chickens fly like they do, its totally amazing.

Are you thinking on getting more Charles?? Let me know if your coming down.

Don't tempt me. It's not fair. :-D

I really am of two minds (or maybe more). Like you said, they're doing fine and they're being fed. Free chooks are well priced (until you start feeding them). The eggs are only small, but may get bigger. And, it doesn't hurt to introduce new stock and breed with them....after a two week quarantine period.

I agree about how hard it is to catch them. I reckon the best way would be to have the Earth Nympth (the Nymphos?) people trap them and keep them to be picked up perhaps.

The ones I got settled in well with the others. They can still fly, but only to get away from what they perceive as danger (ie. me). During free ranging, they hang out with the others and don't wander away. And, they are amongst the first to return to the pen to roost.

I reckon they know when they've got it good.

It can hurt when the new birds are full of disease and or illness' then pass it on to your own flock.
I hope you quarantine them

Yeah i would strongly sugest quarrentine(2 weeks at least) as you never now what they have living like that. My thoughts are to worm them and treat for creepy crawly's while away from the flock, after quarrentine if there are no probs then it should be ok..

Mate, you'd have an absolute ball.

If I do decide to go down, maybe I can pick you up on the way. (I have a Blue Card -- Suitability for Working with Children, so the government and police checks didn't flag anything...yet). :-D

Even if you don't catch anything, you'll get some exercise.

Man some people here are uptight about quarantine. Anyone would think I was getting them from Thailand or something. :lol:

I understand the concern, but am over hearing it repeated and repeated. I heard ya the first six times.

I'll summarise...All new birds introduced should be quarantined for a period (two weeks is good) to reduce the risk of your birds giving them any diseases. If your birds are still alive in two weeks introduce the new ones.

Does that sound right? :lol:

OK. I know. My time will come. I will disobey the quarantine rule, my chooks will get that rare Emuitis disease, turn into emus and kick my outhouse down, knock me over, scratch out my eyes and eat my cat. I know already.

I'll quarantine them.

I took photos of the other three dumped chooks Sunday, but since there is also a bantam in the first photo, I'll start a new thread so as not to confuse anyone. (eg. myself).

Well im glad we persuaded you to quarantine them.
You will thank us when you have a huge disease free flock, and not several new graves and you rushing to the vet each day for new meds :-?
