i am going to start up some new chook feeds and whant to no what things have what in them
could some one set it out like below.
and what is ideal for pullets, show birds, layers and chicks?sorry alot of q's

cat food=protien

I wouldnt give them too much dry cat food, as they can dehydrate very quickly and die because it expands in their stomach

It is good in a mash, as is wet cat food, but i assume you want to make your own dry feed ?

yer bascily i want to now what grains have what in them ie do some give iorn while some fatten a bird up

Why do ya want to make your own feeds up Stu? Unless you can get the grain super cheap i'd be sticking with the ones that the stockfeeds make. It's all the extra stuff they put in like the added vitamins,meds,trace elements etc that will make it hard for you to replicate imo.

I would stick to store bought feed and just give extra certain things when needed,

for example, egg shell or oytser shell for extra calcium
cat food or band saw dust for extra protein etc.....

yer i sopose but our stock feed only has layers pelets

Hi Stuart

I use mix called Red Hen (not the pellets style) and the chooks love it (isa browns, leghorns and rhode island red x. If you want to extend the grain and keep costs down then you can add a budget pellet mix to it. Then there are kitchen scraps, eggshells, shell grit. If your stockfeed people dont have the red hen non pellet variety (or anything else you want) ask them to see if they can get it in for you.

I do have a question for others reading this though..what is the best choice of feed for silkies?

Well for my silkies because they have a little beak they dont like eating large pellets or grain. therefore i have maid my own mix. I Use 25kg of peachface parakeet mix which has lots of millet, some canary seed, a bit of safflower, and a bit of sunflower seeds. then i ad 2kg of cracked corn. to that i ad roughly around 4-6kg of chicken grower mash. the silkies eat everything in this mix and there is no wastage. I also feed it to my other bantams such as the d'uccle's and sebrights.
