That really is the bottom line even if we don't like it

There is no dispute that Salmonella pullorum was historically present in Australia and was effectively eradicated from commercial flocks.
Is the suggestion that this disease has just fizzled out in Australia? That hypothesis seems highly improbable.

Your assuming it was in backyard fowls and not just in commercial fowl and eradicated and its written. Thats how I read the history of this disease

Yes I am. There was always a lot of commercial poultry sold to backyarders. Many older people will recall having bought crossbreed layers from the local poultry farm.

We will never know unless someone bothers to test and we end up getting a positive test . They stopped testing backyard chooks because they were all testing negative .
But to be honest I had never heard of it till this happened , I had heard of salmonella
But not the different types.

It was only in commercial fowl and its been gone for many years there's no records of it ever being in backyard fowl and to suggest it is not a good idea or they may come to your place to test your fowl. Not a wise move to state diseases are in backyard fowls especially ones that have no treatment

It sure did turn out a mess in the end. I have heard there is a new committee trying for a second attempt but not sure if any on it have experience with importing

Yes I think no more mention of that disease in backyard fowls is a very good idea

I have heard on the grape vine that a big % of the source fowls have the disease or carry it and it was passed down to the eggs. Have they killed the source fowls yet?

No it was 1 hen that slipped thru the testing , and no the source stock are being sold in the UK as it is not a major problem there.
