Even if there was a petition and it had 10,000 or 20,000 which will never happen I also doubt it will change the situation they new the risks going in so deal with it

Have no fear folks, these birds are being destroyed because one chick testing positive to salmonella .... Huge risk considering it is already carried by a large proportion of our native animals animals and more backyard flocks in Australia than most would know...... But I guess it is a convenient excuse . I hope they start the native animal cull as soon as possible , can't have those diseased vermin running around infecting commercial poultry ! conf665

[smilie=welcome.gif] Bruce I see its your first post in 3 years, nice.

So Bruce tell us about the exact strain of salmonella that was detected and some links to that exact strain please. Also some link to info to backup your claim our native animals have the exact same strain already. Look forward to reading all this info

Thanks

Avian salmonellosis is an important disease causing serious impediment to the development
of poultry industry especially in developing countries of Asia and Africa. Since no “effective”
immunoprophylactic measures are available for the disease till date, strict biosecurity is the
only alternative to preclude the disease.

http://www.apjtb.com/zz/20136/14.pdf

For those who trivialize the seriousness of this disease. I hope you learn something and park the emotions at the door.

Fowl man :
I do not know what strain of salmonella was involved so I did jump the gun a little, however; native animals do regularly carry more than one strain
Of this disease - I know this through expoSure through the dairy industry- two seperate cases one being transmitted through possum urine and faeces and the other through wild waterfowl polluting a water supply . Both virulent strains that killed livestock. for obvious reasons I will not name farms. There was another form of this disease carried through sparrows in Hobart Tasmania a year or so ago -google sparrow disease Hobart...
I don't have the reference material here but I believe avian pulorum disease was tested for in qld for quite a few years .
As a country we have a large migratory bird population - a lot of which spends time on those developing countries mentioned in that article just posted.
It would be fanciful to think these diseases are not already here.
I was not advocating we laugh it off but merely highlighting an overreaction to this result considering the facts we have on hand .. Ie. one bird weeks ago positive and the rest of the 4000 birds healthy with tests over the weeks since all negative. Whatever strain is , it is not acting like a virulent one. Test out .
You are right how however lacking specifics I will retract my previous post and you may delete it.
Ps. I have no stake In this project .
