Hi, all! I got an email from Edgar's Mission saying there were more battery hens and I'm picking mine up today. They only eat "mash" or "crumble" so I went shopping but found "meal" instead of mash. What's the difference between the two?

Looks like the meal has finely ground grains and shells and...some form of powder. Is that the same or equivalent as mash? I don't want to feed them the wrong thing! I'll be out of Internet range until this arvo. I have the meal already, but will have to go out and get mash if that's the wrong stuff

Many thanks for any help anyone can give me today!!!!!

Mands

Hi Mands

Well done for rescuing some battery hens th_clap.gif

I am not sure what meal is but I use mash & my girls love, love, love it. :-D

You can wet it with warm water (or cold) & make into a mush & they go nuts over it. [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Don't forget to post us picks of your girls. We don't care if they're bald, scraggly & scrappy looking, they're chookies & we love them any way we can get em ;)

Cheers

Hi guys,

I have to shrink down the photo - will post tomorrow. I got four - quite thin, but mostly feathered. As we took these ones, a truck pulled up FULL of them. I hope they all get homes - they were doing a couple of trips.

I made a "mush" out of this layer 'meal' and they loved it. Will quarrentine them for a while, then slowly integrate with my Bantams :)

Do you use Gimp :?:

One of the members told me about it. You can down load it for free of the Internet & resize your pics but it doesn't reduce the quality or shrink them down to a silly size that makes them really small when you post them that they're hard to view.

I'm just a novice at this stuff but I totally love all the stuff I learn off the members on the forum [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif]

Hi, all. Here they are :)

Bit manky in places, beaks are all different shapes and they're VERY hungry all the time. But they're in their new home at least.

Oh th_clap.gif thank you for posting pics

They look quite good for battery hens. How old would they be?

Love that they spent the first night in the bathroom sidesplit.gif that's hilarious.

Their new home also looks fabulous. I'm sure they will be very happy girls from now on, now that they have gone to a good loving home.

Well done Mands [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Cheers

Thanks, Chicka-Dee :)

They do look quite good. These were a few of the ones held over from the last rescue as their condition was quite bad. They are still very thin, but I'm feeding them well - hopefully not too well. How does one know?

I was told they are between 12 and 18 months. They are quite large and my poor little bantams have been eyeing them off with trepidation. I do hope the integration goes well. hide:
