I think most people genuinely try to do the right thing, or at least I'd like to think so, You never know she might swap them .

When I contacted her she didn't hesitate to swap them.

She was very nice about it. I shouldn't have worried so much.

Update

I picked up the phone and called the person I bought the chickens off.

I told her the problem...problems. She told me to bring them back and she'd swap them.

I drove there yesterday evening and swapped four cockerels for four (fingers-crossed) pullets.

I even managed to swap them basically like for like.

I swapped the Light Sussex for a Light Sussex which looks so much more like a pullet than the cockerel ever did.

I swapped the Buff Sussex for a Buff Sussex that looks even more like a pullet than the Light Sussex.

Now it gets interesting.

I swapped the RIR and the New Hampshire for 2 New Hampshire/RIR Xs. So, I still got the equivalent of one of each...right? :lol:

I'm reasonably confident they are both pullets, too.

She said she'd keep the four I brought back separate to see what they become when they get a little older. She grabbed my number so she could let me know. Which is fine, because whether they are male or female, I'd like to know as it will help me with future sexing.

Also, if any are pullets, I may consider driving back there and grabbing them again. After all, I fed them for four weeks.

As for the Australorps...well, in the flesh they really do all look quite similar and they each have combs that are dramatically smaller than any of the cockerals I took back. I took all three with me so she could see them as well.

No swap made on the Australorps. If there is one cockeral out of the three, I'll keep the three of them together so they can breed more Australorps.

If you were referring to the boyorgirl.jpg that one was a pullet.

My wife and I had three pullets, then a cockerel. We're now trying for a couple more cockerels. Twin cockerels would be good.

If you were referring to the three Australorps...well, until one of them crows, I reckon they're pullets.

And, the four replacements I haven't posted photos of seem to be pullets, too.

They're quite possibly purebred. I'd say probably commercial type. The white in them will probably grow out, but will always be in the genetics. You'd probably find the parent rooster has a white feather or 2.
My old Australorp roo had 1 white feather and that trait was always passed down to it's offspring. The whiite would grow out but not for a good few months. Twas this reason i changed roos over

That's fantastic the breeder changed those cockerals over for ya mate :-D

I don't expect to be breeding them for show or commercial sales. Simply that Australorps are dual purpose...aren't they? So, I could breed my own. The girls can lay and the boys can feed my family. After their first season of laying, I can keep the best and eat the rest (or sell them cheap).

Sounds good in theory. :lol:

At this stage as long as I have a broody pen available, I expect I'll let them sit on eggs.

10 eggs (potential chickens) under a broody beats 10 eggs in the fridge
