back on topic = Lemon Cuckoo - the colour

lemon is a yellow colour so yes I can see why the confusion

question = do the Pekin Buff Cuckoos need to be a bold bright Buff on White or is a paler version of the Buff allowed on the show bench?

in Orps the 'buff' component of the Orp Lemon Cuckoo is supposed to stand out in contrast to the white - the males are often 'brighter' than the females

now I KNOW these are NOT Pekin but it is regards the colour in question in the title = is this what a Pekin Buff Cuckoo colour should be similar to? = asking so I get it right in my head

Lemon Cuckoo in Orpingtons =

this blokes neck hackles pattern is starting to exhibit much better now he is starting to moult and grow in his real adult feathers
he placed 1st VIC Rare & New Breeds 2012 (his brother placed 2nd his Aunt placed 1st AORC)

this is a young plt = much paler as you can see

Yes that is what a buff cuckoo pekin colour should be and all too often thats what people call lemon cuckoo which by looking at your comparison picture showing the lemon pullet you can see how far off the colour is. Excellent comparison soozorps

The second picture is the correct colouring for lemon the third is too dark even for a rooster

right - got it now - so Orps are a much darker more 'Buff' than the Pekin and named differently obviously

pics = the boys are correctly coloured for Lemon Cuckoo in Orpington
the pullet is too pale but still LemonC and most females are a shade or 2 lighter than the males

so = (correct me if I am wrong still re Pekin)
IN Pekin they are Buff Cuckoo = Buff with White barring as contrast with a good depth of colour expected

IN Orpington =
Lemon Cuckoo = Buff with White barring - (with a good depth of Buff colouring preferred)

Buff Cuckoo = Buff with light to dark Grey barring NO White at all

Yes the buff cuckoo should be dark but we see more light shades in shows due to poor breeding and the use of white in the mix. The lemon should be very very pale with white markings and very close in colour to the colour lemon

Now the big question = what other breeds have Buff and or Lemon Cuckoo in them in OZ

We may as well explore the colour across the board!

That is a good question I only new or should I say heard of the lemon in pekin and sebright I wonder it that is a cross possible then eventually breed back to pure?
