How loud are Peafowl really?

I don't keep peafowl but would love to. I have lived beside a lady who kept to peacocks and about 5 peahens and while the noise didn't bother me I wondered actually how loud they would have been at her house.

Can some who own them tell me of their habits noise wise? I have geese which generally don't bother me at all.

if yr geese dont bother you yr peafowl certainly wont
we have had both on a property [years ago now] and we were not fussed by either - like most noises = tis a sound that you hear and after a while you 'tune out' to it
admittedly the electricity meter reading guy nearly had a heart attack the first time he heard one of the boys go off :lol:

personally I adore the various voices of peafowl

Hi Sebducks. Go to "BROWFARM," an English website and Martin has got a great article on the joys of owning peacocks. If you read through you can click on a link to their sound and that is spot on what they are like. Our first season calls started yesterday so they are on the way to starting! We virtually never notice ours but the first time I heard one I thought someone was seriously being murdered and calling "Help!" If you have less than 5 acres you shouldn't even think about keeping them and even then you need understanding neighbours. 2 acres is OK if you are going to always pen them. Hope this helps. Pam

The neighbours have 3 peacocks and they don't bother me :-D

I have them & they dont bother me. But they are penned away from the house.
However people over the rd have some freerange birds that run a muck & do all things that people hate peafowl for.
They roost in the tree right outside my bedroom & scream at all hours in the breeding season. :evil:

not happy!!!! Other than that they are fine

But not when they jump on the car & poop everywhere. ( I have never smelt anything as foul as peacock poop) [smilie=a_rolling.gif]

I have 2 peacocks and the 1 with some white its wings, split I believe, never seems to shut up when he has his tail fanned. My wife occasionally yells at him as he does it at the back door, it doesn't stop him. Jack

We have Lots and Lots of peafowl and they aren't noisy , they make a bit of a commotion during the breeding season but generally wander around quietly looking beautiful , If their is a sudden noise like a bang or the tractor starting they all go off , but other than that are a very peacefull , animal unlike our Australorps that will crow constantly from 3am til 7 pm .

My peacock is not loud at all the rooster next door is twice as loud and he crows all day and I had a pair of golden pheasants and they are very quite but a fox took them one night
