Will free range Peacocks change roosting habits?

Yesterday our peacock was attacked by 2 of our neighbors dogs. At this stage he seems ok, but has lost about 70% of his tail. He roosts in a tree that borders the next door property and we have seen the dogs trying to jump up at him before. He is a totally free range bird that was at our property when we moved in recently and I was wonderring if a peacock will realise the danger and find another roosting tree? At this stage we havent seen him this morning, but are hopeful he will return.

Our Sky changes trees every 3 or so months so I think he will sooner or later find a new tree and away from danger

We hope so. It has been 24 hours since we last saw him, we dont know if he is just hiding after his attack or if another predator has taken him.

He's probably just hiding they do that when they are upset so give him time to return

Could take him a few days to recoup and come back they can sulk if they are upset, was he at all injured?

It looks like we may have lost Paul. We think he may have lost too many of his tailfeathers and was unable to fly. Tonight we heard him calling in distress and when we ran out only found more feathers. We are totally devastated, having grown to love dearly him in the few months we have been here. Yesterday we contacted our council and reported the dogs that attacked him and were informed the dogs will be placed on a register and the owners will be notified that if this occurs again further action will be taken. Although this is a huge loss, we are going ahead with our original plans to buy more peafowl and guinea fowl, however the location of their pens will be as far away from the neighbors boundary as possible.

Its very sad to read this as it really p1sses me off when other peoples mongrel dog kill your birds they should be put down and I will volunteer to do it

Unfortunately Paul was taken last night, presumably by a fox as he was unable to roost high enough.

I have sternly advised the neighbors that it would be a mistake for them to let me see their dogs on my property again as it WILL be the last time I see them!

Did you find the body?

No I didnt find the body, but from the amount of feathers in different spots it looks as though he was dragged quite some way from the initial attack. I found quite a few clumps of body and wing feathers as well as tail feathers.
