How is the best way to catch peacocks when I need to sell a couple?

I have a few free range but want to sell a couple and I can get them into the chook coop easy enough but then how do I catch them?

I am thinking of a big net of some sort?

Ok first you need a good heavy duty landing net (hand held fishing net) with a decent handle buy not too long.

Like this one or a round one
Image

Second heard the fowl into a corner and use the net to catch the fowl head first in the net (don't catch it in mid flight) now quickly go to the head of the net where the fowl is and get down on your knees and using one hand (your strongest) grab both legs above the knees and hold both legs together using just the one hand now with your other hand help feed the fowl out of the net making sure the wings stay tight against the body as you are doing this move your legs up so when it is free from the net the fowl is hard up against your legs (left or right depending on which hand you use) if your right handed then you will hold the legs together with your right hand and use the left hand to keep the wings against the body and the fowl will now be firmly against your right leg so your left hand will now be holding only the right wing (as the left is against your leg) now simple slide the fowl up your side to under your right arm. Now when you stand up the fowl is tucked under your right arm with your right arm over the fowls body and holding its legs together. This is the safest and humane way as the fowl cannot flap it's wings and is secure.

DO NOT catch peafowl or any bird by the tail or wing this is cruel and inhumane and you may cause permanent damage to the fowl.

The next time I need to move or sell a peafowl I will get the wife to take some action shots of how it’s done

Thanks for the advice I will do it that way may take some practice but sounds easy enough and kind to the peacock. I did get some info from an email that did say to hold them by the wing and then grab the legs but that didn't sound right to me I thought it sounded a little cruel so wanted to check with you guys.

Its actually very easy once you have done it once you will see how easy it is and little stress or injury to the peafowl which is most important. As for you being told to hold them by the wing is just cruel as you said but also plain stupid and animal abuse in my view and they should be someone you add to the 'never listen too' pile ;) it pays to check these things with people that handle them regularly as we do. Pleased I could put you on the right track a_bravo.gif

Can't add much as Colin has covered it but just make sure you grab the legs as soon as you catch it and watch those spurs they can cut you easily and deep. As for holding by the wing well thats as stupid as picking a dog up by the tail  you just don't do it th_Noooo.gif
