I have been reading all about the pied blue peafowls and from what I am reading on the internet they originated in Queensland and that they have all the good ones so I will be looking to buy them there of course but is it best to use air transport and apposed to road transport with a saving in time using the air transport? by the road it would take about 8 hours to get here and all up it works out at 5 hours by air because I have to drive to the airport ect.. so about 3 hours the difference but would the air trip down here to NSW freak them out? and is it safe for peafowls to be in the cargo area of a plane?

I would rather use raod transport as I can then be sure how they are treated and no air pressure that they get from a plane

I would transport them by road.

Make sure they are in a covered cage that they can stand up in, the size depends how many peafowl you are picking up!
For two fully grown hens I have used a large box with straw inlay with large air holes which sat inside of our suburu forester with the air con blasting! As well as water inside for them- but I drove 3 hours. So 8 hours I would look at some sort of cooling system, when peafowl travel their body temp rises, as with any stress! :oops:

Please think about if you had to travel 8 hours what would you like - COMFORT- WATER AND COOLISH TEMP & (perhaps a bit of treat food)
I can't emphasis enough that ANIMAL comfort is first and top priority - perhaps find some peafowl you want a little closer if you can!
8 hours would be the maximum I recommend for live birds to travel.
After a trip like that expect them to hop out slowly of the box/cage and be a bit drowsy or bewildered- then about 1 week to settle in once you got them into their new environment.

NO AIRPLANES As you can't monitor them whenever you feel like it. (or when you have stopped to fill up on fuel)
I know air transport cuts back on time, however air pressure altitude & handling equates to, too many stresses for the birds.

Limit the number of times there are big unpredictable noises and big movement- it will be much kinder to the birds. [smilie=a_withstupid.gif]

I have never done either, but in the last couple of days have spoken to a couple of southern breeders, who all use road transport to send P's up north and have done so for a number of years with out problems.
they gave me a couple of companies but i think one was called Pets4you, and there are other pet transport companies that are meant to be good.......
I would be asking weather they are used to transporting birds before i worked with any of them though..
the price i think was about $200 from Vic border to Qld ( not sure where), but get quotes!!
I would be looking at road before plane.

if you use road transport RESEARCH first before trusting anyone.

Maybe we need a list of good pet transport companies?
