Should my female blue do the tail display

Should my female blue do the tail display like the male does or do I not have a female but a young male? She is supposed to be 2 years old and has no colour on her except a little on her neck so she looks like a female but now worried she is a he???

at two years of age, if there is no tail, its a girl. Girls start to be at breeding age about now...wait a month or so...it will all start happening by then....

I the brown feathers on her back look very even in colour, its a girl, boys have more defined brown feathers, it looks different.

Females do fan out their tails not sure exactly why though but it seems to be the younger ones that do it more and they usually do when other birds are close by not so much to other perfowl so maybe its like a defence posture? Both the male and female have tails its just the male that has the train

Our young males at work will display at anything, pigeons, turkeys, chickens, brolgas, staff...you name it it. So ours will display even if there isn't any peahens around hehe...

I have seen an older female display her shorter tail up, as a defense while she had chicks. My cat was around so, she was just protecting her little babies (even though they were all penned up)
I have also seen older female display her tail during breeding season perhaps it's a turn on to the male?

I know its very confusing when you are trying to sort the girls out from the boys when they are younger!

you can tell by their feathers..... the pattern is different in boys... there is a definite "barring almost" on the boys grey/plain feathers... The girls are more smooth and even in colour.

They do it for a few reasons inc.. sexual maturity, defence, dominance, ect.... perfectly normal
