whats the best thing to feed silkie bantoms and pekins

just wondering, whats the best thing to feed my pekins and silkie bantoms, as ive noticed there not real into the household scraps like my rhode island reds are, but they do like cooked rice, is rice ok for them,. My pekins and silkies seem a bit skinny, that bone that runs right up there chest seems to stick out a lot, is this normal, or are they way to skinny. Im feeding them a general mash mix.

Barrastock-darling downs layer-is that available in your area,i find this is really good,has a few diffrent grains/seeds in it,they seem to like it!

I did try Red hen but they werent into that,left half of it :evil:

I feed mine a mix of whole grain & layer mash, they love it :-D

they only leave the little red things, think thats sorgum?

I mix my own feed, but always include a pellet
the best small pellet that all my birds will eat, silkies to Lt Sussex
is COPRICE layer pellets, they are small and the silkies and my Belgians seem to have no problms eating them.

I limit the amount of grain i feed my silkies as i was told by an old breeder it encourages hard feathers in their wings if they get too much
and as they are white I also limit their corn intake as it tends to yellow them a bit....but perhaps I am mamby pambying them too much????

saw some at the pet shop that were about 2 or 3mm long and a light beige colour, thought I might give them a try. I Will write down the name when I go next :oops:

they are brilliant, my produce ran out a few weeks back and I bought vella which are also small but the birds wouldnt touch them....lol

Riverina red label crushed mixed grain mix. love it and are happy on it, Pekin's that is. Easier to digest when it's a little crushed. All scraps are ok (meat is a matter of opinion, personally I don't) the only things you should not give thenm in this regard is rhubarb leaves, potato shoots and don't let them eat foxglove leaves (all three will kill them). Rice is great but they also need protein i.e. mixed grains. If your worried about them make some mash (add hot water to some pellets and feed on the side to them) will fatten up nicely then.
