Do chooks get confused by daylight savings?

Or is it just the humans who forget to turn back the clocks and remember to lock the chooks up an hour earlier than they did during summer time?

Don't forget to turn back your clocks Victorian's and go and lock your chooks up, it's already dark outside...

No, chooks don't, but humans do!

Animals dont care about clocks. All they care about is when you let them out & when they get to go to bed. If you change the time you do this by one hour, then that might confuse them (for maybe a few days), because they will have to get use to the new routine.

At least now your curtains won't get so faded now you are turning your clocks back!!!
sidesplit.gif Kidding!, that's just another human's thoughts about day light savings.

So with ya Chook kid. Sooooo glad we don't have that up here. th_clap.gif

I laughed out loud just reading the heading for this topic.... LOL sidesplit.gif

I didn't follow a time schedule today. i just locked the pen when it was starting to get dark. i don't think the chicks noticed any difference. They may wonder why i am taking so long to let them out in the morning though and feed them .... nahhh they probably still wouldn't care...

I have a love / hate relationship with say light savings. My girls are cackling, my rooster crowing and it feels like the crack of dawn. I have to get up in a minute to let them out :( can't wait for my automatic door to be built by hubby.

What I love about day light savings is being able to go out to dinner and then come home to lock up the girls. I can now go to my Mum's for dinner i_like1 Also I can spend extra time in the garden, finishing the coop, just as long as it doesn't rain [smilie=a_rolling.gif] .

Everyone says Queensland needs to get up to speed with daylight savings but when you live in the sunshine state it's not real pleasant sitting in your lounge room at 9 PM with sun still shining in the window!

When we lived out west, Hubby-Dee use to go to bed at 7:30pm & we ended up having to spend $1000's of dollars on custom made, heavy backed curtains just so he could go to sleep.

I would feel real sorry for the farmers out west & up north if they brought in daylight saving to Queensland again, just to appease the rest of the country th_Noooo.gif

Good idea [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif] Have you bought an automatic door yet Chicka? Or is Hubby going to come up with his own inventive version?

Hello ChickaDee, we decided to scrooge on the door and make one ourselves. Hubby is inventive and can make one. Bought a motor, timers and some other thingy (component) off ebay to make our own door. Total cost for components about $25. Just need a piece of aluminium sheeting for the sliding door and the project will be a goer. Just need to build the coop along the side of my pen, just like yours and then all will be complete. Rome wasn't built in a day and considering I am doing all of the construction as well as completing the chook run I have a to do list a mile long. Here's just a few.

1. Build chook house along wall
2. Dig holes for steel posts to cover entire upper yard with anti bird netting.
3. Finish fencing (after it burnt in Black Saturday)
4. Finish retaining wall for vegetable garden. Holes already dug.

I would now admit that my chooks are an all consuming passion hide:

For the love of my flock <3
