This calculator gives statistical results that would be expected using very large numbers. In one of my experimental matings I had a 1:2040 chance of getting a certain phenotype. I got one out of the 9 eggs that were set, what I wanted odds of 1:4 I didn't get. Luck can count for a great deal.

Appreciate the honest appraisal. Would be interesting to hear comments of say 50 random sample to see what accuracy it had. Especially knowing most "pure's carry other genes in them also.

This calculator doesn't include all the known genes, and also assumes you know the exact genotype of your birds. As you say this is something we often do not know. There is a thread on the COOP that tells you how to personalize Kip to your own needs, & how to add other genes ,and introduce fuzzy logic.
For a fairly simple predictor of what will be produced from specific crosses I think it is pretty good, but like all computer programs the output is entirely dependent on the input.

I would like to look into those odds.
What crosses did you make?

Problem is indeed how to set the right genotype for your birds.
When you base a black bird not on E/E but on e^b you get a lot more non-black offspring.
Such a bird would have a number of eumelanizers, some unknown.
Even when you set it to e^b/e^b Ml/Ml cha/cha the picture still shows an e^b animal, the description saying melanized something. These range up to black.
Those kind of choices I had to make while constructing this chicken calculator. Hope you understand.

In the mean time I hope all the members of this forum vent their questions about the calculator. Feedback leads to a lot of improvement or enlightenment.

The chicken calculator only misses a few firmly known color-genes, but there are a few more like autosomal red and recessive melanizers.

It has a little feature that can summarize the crosses you made.
Might be helpful for debugging in this case.

I dont know how to use it really but also had a look at the comb calculator which disappointed me as it only had single and rosecombs.

It is just a little demo.
It has rosecomb, peacomb and the combination is walnutcomb.
Again, you can add whatever you want.
