Correct way of breeding blue plymouth rocks.

Ok I have bought some blue plymouth rocks. At present I have lent Les Dowles book to another breeder.I have been told several different things about breeding them. Can anyone set me straight. I don't need a pair of blues to breed blue,so I have been told. I can put a dark barred rock over a blue hen. Is this correct?
I can breed a blue hen and blue male and have blue?. How long before I loose good Colouring doing this?
Sorry to ask so much,but I don't want to mess up my lines by doing the wrong thing. I am new to blue in rocks.

Hy Mummaroo , hows things , I have bred blue in other breeds and talked about colour breeding with other breeders , Some people actually prefer blue to black to breed blues ,so as not to dilute the colours , so in your case blue to darkbarred would be good , I love blue birds , and have bred blue leghorns , and have never seen a blue rock , So i'd love to see a piccy , Ian

These are now quite rare,no large birds have been seen for some time, and only a couple of bantams have been seen in the last couple of years,on the North Coast & in the Riverina,all were fairly poor specimens.
The Blue Plymouth Rock is required to be a laced blue,each feather having a dark blue,nearly black lace.
If you use a Dark Barred male over your hen all you will get is barred chicks.
Better to mate the Blue male over a Dark Barred female,this will give you barred males(cull) & black and blue females. Mate these blues & back to the Blue male. From these matings you will get laced blues,unlaced blues,blacks & splashes. Select the laced blues.
The only other Laced Blue heavy softfeather breed is the Orpington, but unfortunately you may have a difficult job finding a bird with good lacing due to interbreeding with blue Wyandottes. In Wyandottes lacing is a fault. Orpingtons will also give you white skin & legs & you need yellow. Clear yellow legs are difficult to get in blue & black Rocks and you may have dark or dusky ones.
