I agree at the time the syndicate was formed the web site should have been up and photos added of the source fowl when hatched and again as maturing.

Perhaps a leaf out of NAPIS book was needed, they were very well organized from the start and a great web site.

As for culling my mate will fill me in on sunday when we catch up. Some breeds can be sexed from day olds other will need DNA sexing if they want to get it right or hang on to them for several weeks but room in the station is an issue.

I will post what I can after talking with my mate.

I was talking with 2 champion fancy pigeon breeders last night at the poultry and pigeon function and we got onto the subject of imports and particularly the imports of pigeons from the UK and other countries. They explained that the source breeders details were available to anyone and not just stakeholders also that breeders could contact the source breeders direct to discuss the birds/lines and get more details such as pictures. Many of the source breeders had either web sites to view or appeared in pigeon magazines so those looking to join the syndicate could see or read up about the breeders. They also said the source breeders were the best breeders in their class at the time and that only the best quality lines were sourced they did not and would not accept culls or pet loft quality, in their words "that would be stupid and a complete waste of time and money" Even the breeds that were not in Australia at the time of imports were only sourced from the best breeders/lines. New blood is one thing but quality new blood is a whole other thing and for the quality fowl breeders like myself the latter is the only choice.

As I posted in the leg ring topic back in feb I bred show budgies for 4 years and I remember when the imported budgies came into australia. The breeders who supplied the budgies were well known and everyone knew who they were it was no secret to anyone, actually the opposite, breeders here would boast they had 'binks' birds or 'manns' birds and why wouldn't you. Like the pigeon people in your post fowlman the budgie people got the budgies from the best breeders with the best lines and like I said everyone not just the syndicate members knew where the birds were coming from long before any arrived at quarantine. Likewise many of the breeders had appeared in budgerigar world magazine so plenty of pictures for everyone to see

Lets hope by the 2nd import thing are ironed out and people will know who the breeders are in the UK as I find that odd its a secret?
