im gonna suck up to the boss soon, and give him a dozen or 2, :-D

I gave Debbie a leg band today, as she very similar to sunlight,
Ginger's tail just peaks above her back so maybe in a fortnight she will have a nice little tail happening, and all her bum feathers have grown back, i still dont know why she isnt laying :-?

Ginger has a lovely new tail now, and all their nails have worn down to a good length, they all know to go inside at night, but Sunlight is still not perching, and Ginger is still not laying, it is possible though that she had to use all her calcium for new feathers and didn't have enough for egg production, so i will just have to wait a little longer for her.

and everyone is getting along fine now which is good.

Hang in their mate ,she'll lay eventually , I've had heaps of ex-battery hens over the years and trust me once they start they don't stop ,...well not for a long time anyway , She'll lay when she's ready ,Guaranteed.

Glad to hear they are getting their feathers back, Peter, and that those nails are looking better.

I rang the lady who bought my girls the other day (still wish I'd said "no, you can't have them all, but at least I can save some more now which is the whole point!) and she said they are going great out there.

Well done, its always a good felling giving something a second chance. I went to buy chicken mince at the abitoir about 2 months ago & picked up a escapee waiting at the gate. I stopped & said come with me if you want to live, she was so fat I don't think she could have gone to much further. She is called Big Bertha & is 5 kg, she now has 1/2 her body covered with feathers, she is a white meat chicken & is a lovely quiet thing. Next time I went there was a layer at the gate but my other 1/2 said NO you are not stopping..... Sorry back to nails, I breed & show dogs & had a dog wash business before having my son, wet the nail even a little spit will do & it will help you see the cuticle in a light coloured nail. I use dog nail clippers (the ones that look like prunners) on the dogs, cat & chooks. I have showed a lot of people how to cut their dogs nails & the simple way is pretend it is a horse & turn the foot back like a farrier so you are looking at the pad side of the foot, if they are overgrown you should be able to see where the cuticle finishes & the nail begins. Doing it this way you also get the angle right, it should work on your girls.

Debbie and Sunlight are slowing down in egg production as we draw closer and closer to winter
And Sunlight just had her first photo shoot, pics should be up soon.

ill update this to draw attention away from members forum, got a bit scary in there just then lol

anyway, the 3 girls are going well, debbie lays almost everyday without fail, and sunlight has just come back on the lay, and but still ginger refuses too,
and Debbie is still head chook and can chase me around the yard, and watches mum put the clothes out on the line :shock:

I use dog clipper for nail trimming too. Very lucky chooks to have such a good home to go to :-D

we also use dog clippers, it is a very easy way to cut their nails.

I use dog clippers for nails and spurs. It is easier for me as one person to cut the roosters spurs with dog clippers than try and use an angle grinder. I would end up chopping off their head with some crazy angle grinder gone mad. :shock:
