forgot to add. Yes the dog is naughty ,and she is a little hunter unlike my other dog . And believe me ive had just as many words to that naughty dog as i did with my daughter.
I suggested to my daughter maybe the dog should go to a home with no chooks, I thought she would say yes but she said no way, i love her to death , and it wasnt her fault this time it was mine.

Yep, you sound exhausted. I know that feeling. I felt that way when I was doing full time uni, working part-time, and caring for three primary school aged children. Years go past in a blur and you are really too exhausted to cope with extra stress. I hope you continue to enjoy your 'poultry therapy'. It's a great outlet.

Hi Cammochick,

Thank you for adding the extra information, it is just another case of how typed words don't convey the true meaning and feeling that if you were face to face talking.

I do hope you can find more chickens, I also sincerely appologise to you for jumping the gun so to speak.

I have a 26 year old daughter who has a little girl and my daughter spends a lot of time playing some kind of game like what you mentioned, pokemon or something. To me that seems like a waste of life when she lives on a 40 acre property. But I guess they find some kind of enjoyment in these things.

I do hope you can get some time out, as I do agree with the others, you sound exhausted, just be careful not to burn out.

My partner forgot to lock his dogs in twice with 2 fatalities.
Fortunately for me the terrier responsible has since passed on (karma) and he only has his 2 chihuahua x left which are nowhere near as aggressive, however still shut them away as a precation.

Point is accidents happen.
Not much you can do about it but deal with what has happened.
Quick thinking and first aid prevented the injured chooks from going into shock and adding to the body count.

Maybe you can get a spring back hinge that automatically shuts the gate behind you. Very useful if your daughter is forgetful.

BTW: I know what you mean about people being unsypathetic, family is family no matter if it has wings, fur or fins. I am sorry for your loss.

a new home would be a good idea, once they go that far they will do it again.
As for your daughter, we still all love our children and i understand were you are coming from. We have a 13yr old and man does he #*@$ me off. The shed is always left opened or unlocked, my tools where ever he has used them including drills and other power tool were the younger kids can reach them, i work a rotating shift with 4am starts so i need to leave a note please let out chooks 9.30am to 7.30pm another note please lock chooks up and collect eggs then 12.30pm to whenever we finish milking usually about 11pm yet another note but every time is the same one pen will be left open or the eggs are still in the nesting box that you walk pass to close the door, boy do i get

. Just the other day we had a deep a D&M about it all but the next day was the same. I'm more worried about him turning out like some of the guys i work with now that is another story in it's self for another day and yes no one in my family could give a rats @&*% about my chooks either

Well yesterday my daughter tells me that she never actually found mr stimpys body on thursday, and is missing. So i hunt all day for stimpy , ask the neighbours whom have dogs too. I saw a trail of stimpy feathers in the neighbours property and thought well i guess stimpy went in to their property to get away from my naughty dog and probly got eaten by their dog( which is obviously not that dogs fault) .

So last night i thought well its safe to let this naughty dog out of her run for a bit of excercise and to play with the good dog, i placed a training collar on her so if she goes anywhere near the chook run or attempts to go look at the goats i will beep her .

I started cooking tea and noticed she wasnt at the door still , so i race outside with the remote to her collar, and to my shock i find stimpy taking his last breath thanks to the dog. I quickly grabbed stimpy off her , he was alive but in a bad way, i took him inside and had to watch my best favourite chook ever.......die.

I assume stimpy had snuk home from where ever he was hiding and went to mrs polka dot( his partner) chook pen and was probly having a little chat and the dog must of heard it and ran down and got him.
GOD HELP THIS DOG NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAYBE I WILL REHOME HER
I will be upset , and so will my daughter and my other boxer will probly be so lonely . BUT WHAT DOES ONE DO

That's a terrible thing to happen, I feel for you,1 of my dogs got 2 of my sussex hens a while back she killed 1 & I nursed the other back to health.

Don't be to hard on your daughter we are all only human & I know I sometimes forget to latch the gate & come back & go you dickhead :roll:

it's 1 of those thinks easily done.

Most people not into chooks look at you funny when you prattle on about your feathered freinds, those I just don't bother to talk about chooks with, the same goes for the dogs.

If you want a pekin cockerel I have an 8mo little red boy you can have, we will be going down the coast (Benowa) within the next couple of weeks so could bring him down if you'd like him.
