Devestated, upset , annoyed ! Today i lost allmost all my chooks bar mrs silkie and mrs polka dot, and two of mrs polka dots babies , but their beloved partners mr stimpy and mr silkie were mauled and killed along with my buff silkie rooster, and another white silkie rooster, and two young female pekins from mrs polka dot.
The kleenex have almost run out , The feeling of knowing that those chooks would of been screaming for their life whilst my daughter was watch a movie in her bedroom makes me sick.

Not happy at all . I cant blame my boxer dog, but i can blame my 12year old daughter who did not latch the pen area, Her guinea pigs also share this massive pen area , so i was dissapointed in her deeply . Shes lucky the dog didnt eat her guineapigs.

Ive told a few people today that i am pretty %$#@& off , but know one seems to understand , and the jokes have rolled in, well chuk them in the freezer for christmas.

I dont have much enjoyment in my life due to work etc , but my chickns and my two boxers bring some sort of happiness and relief to outside of work stress.
Now im really up *@#& creek. So if anyone outhere has a boy pekin . silkie pullets or pekin pullets now is the time i need your help.

the silkie cockerel is a patridge. I think i know who you are talking about with the buff silkies but i can't think of who it is.

Most of us have to work and sometimes we actually enjoy it, I really think you shouldn't give your daughter a hard time.

Your post really sounds like you love your Dogs that killed the chooks more then your own daughter, I really find that a bit sad and stange.

She is 12 years old, that is not an adult with responsibilities. Your post really sounds like she means nothing to you.

Your Boxer dogs mean more to you then your own daughter who made a simple mistake that even you can make???? Shame on you for your post.

I've got a twelve year old daughter who talks like that.

Except she says, "I'm sure .....[whatever]... but I'm not sure."

Deb, I'm sure CammoChick was a little upset and frustrated when she wrote the post. Give her a week or two to calm down and re-establish something resembling a flock.

Children sitting in front of the TV when they could be out looking after the chooks or building pens or something annoys me, too. ;-)

Yesterday, my twelve year old was going for Gold in Athens (PS2) while my three year old was wandering down the road. Where was I? Cleaning up the three year old's mess in the bathroom.

Cunning little bloke, makes a mess, gets me busy, then makes a bolt for freedom.

12 years old huh - well, it's going to get harder before it gets easier. If a slack attitude to gates is the worst you get from her you'll be doing very well. I'm wondering if she went into the cage area for the guinea pigs. If that's the case, maybe it would be better to have the guinea pigs somewhere else, so that she isn't likely to leave your gate open again. I get cross with my crew here, and I've found that I just need to keep them away from things that they might damage, and then if anything goes wrong - it's my fault. Much better all round. I hate to see things hurt, and it makes me over react at a high octave level. Not good for family relations.

She is probably very upset about what's happened, but she'll never admit it or say sorry to you - that's life with a preteen.

my daughter does mean the world to me , and she knows that . We get on like two sisters really , best mates. Yeh i was pretty upset last night and still am today.
Yes she did go in the pen area to feed her guinea pigs prior to this ,( inbetween playing playstation) and i understand it was a human mistake of course , but she was in a hurry to get back to playstation and watch a movie .
I just felt if she hadnt of been so preoccupied as 12yr olds can be with these computer games , this wouldnt of happened. Its never happened over the years . The gate is tricky so as a precaution i have another two buckle ties on it so theres just no way a dog etc could get in there, these also wernt on .
Perhaps i will take someones advice and move her guinea pigs to a different area , then we are both responsible for our own pets in our own areas .
As for my comment about dont have much enjoyment in life , i was more referring to im so busy with running the household and working a 40 hr job, plus trying to establish my own seedling business at marketts on weekends . ( im sure some of you know how exhausting life can be with kids and husbands and property..........they do nothing and we do it all)
My chickens and boxers just give me a little break from that and i enjoy them.
