incourageing a hen to lay

are there anyways that i can encourage my hens to lay,for some of them its there first time laying

They will soon start to lay again. Trust me. Winter solitice is nearly here and the days will become longer. Just up their protien with meat meal, bone dust or canned meat cat food over the next couple of weeks and bang there you go more eggs than what you know what to do with.

Does anyone disagree with the rockmelons? I have a couple homegrown that we're probably not going to get through before they go soft.

We grow melons , for our chooks , "In my opinion" , It does work .

Also the cat food .

One old "Fowl Breeder" I know feeds all her Fowl , Dog feed soaked in water , (as an extra) Right through the winter .It mightn't make them lay but it would certainly keep them healthy for when they start again .

Their was also a good article in the last poultry mag , about a sprinkle of Cayenne pepper , to bring a chook into lay , It' wont start a chook that has no chance of laying but it can bring a chook on who's close , anyway.... I won't plagurise it , The whole article is worth a read , so it's worth buying .

I agree with what Rosemaries saying though , let natures cycles do the thing , just keep them happy and healthy . They'll lay when theyre ready

I was in "A major Supermarket" in Kingaroy Yesterday , and they had eggs on special for $1.49 a Dozen . The way these eggs are obtained at this time of the year is through the use of Artificial light and Heaters .

Which will only burn your birds out anyway . Let them have a break They deserve it
