What is the largest breed of chicken?

I am wanting to buy a large breed of chicken but I dont know what I am asking for :oops:

So what is a large egg laying chicken that I could buy??
Any suggestions would be great :-D

there are lots of large egg laying chooks to choose from. I like sussex because they are tame, big, have big eggs and lay a lot

I agree with Tahir, but i think the biggest chook is the Jersey Giant!, just not sure on it egg laying capabilities.

Has anyone ever seen a "Jersey Giant" in Australia ?

I have some Huge Sussex,RIR and Brahma but....The Largest Bird I have ever seen myself in Australia , was an Orpington . and He was massive .

yes the jersey giant is the biggest but i havent herd of any in australia either

Jersy Giants..Apparently they are here but are very secretive and hard to find, was told they dont take to the heat that well even in tassie.
And need to be kept in air con sheds, bit of a luxury for some big chooks really. Good layers from what I have read from the states.

Some of the game birds are huge, "I have the big malays" depends if you like them "leggy" or big chunky birds

I think I like the Big Fat Chunky types, the leggy ones remind me of miniature dinosaurs :lol:

but in saying that, I have never seen them in real life, only in pictures!
Oh and I dont think the Jersy chooks are for me, Aircon'd chook houses are off my list :lol:

I've seen some in person and they look every bit the mini dinosaur they look like in pictures.

re: Jersey Giants, if there are some in Australia and usually in air-conditioned sheds, there are very few of us who'll be considering them for our backyards...or sheds.

I'm with Ian on the Orpingtons for size.

I wonder if I could breed my Australorps with Orpingtons to get some size back.

The Australorps were bred for Orpingtons originally , among other things , I love the Australorpe .
