CHICKEN CRUELTY!

I was at the local markets yesterday.
It was a rather hot day, 35deg c to be exact.
Well the markets were at an end & all the stalls closing down & packing up for the day.
I thought out of boredom I would go & have a sticky beak at the poultry, when I noticed 2 people loading their live chickens up. The way they went about it wasnt the best way of handling a bird.
But the part that really got me going..... they just tossed the birds into the hot boot of the car, no food, no water, no cages, no cool air...... :evil:

Apparently these people have been banned from going to these local markets but nobody knew the names.
So hopefully the RSPCA, will take action after being given the number plate of this car.

That is so cruel and heartless, I hope the RSPCA do something about these people. It was good thinking to get there number plate written down.

Sadly I see it happen every week at markets local to my work. They have them overloaded in chicken crates in blistering heat, no food, no water with an unbelieveably horrible smell of stressed animals comming from their truck. Mice run out from between the creates when they unload. A few are put on display for people to grab them by the legs and weigh them for eating. Once I saw them handling the rooster so rough they broke/dislocated a leg and it couldn't stand up again!! - I have been tempted to rescue one but that would only encourage them to bring more.

The chickens are quite obviously not in the best health which, regardles of the weight of the bird would not make them the most suitable for eating in the first place. But try explaining that to the people that buy them every week!!!

Quite often I will leave the markets before they arrive

. Ducks, turkeys, pigeons and rabbits are also victoms of this cruel practice.

Sad part about it is the RSPCA doesn't have excessivly high standards for poultry keeping. Although you may hear them argue that their hands are tied by law, I'm still not convinced.

ONLY 66% !!! - Probably less today concidering people are more concerned about rising costs than environmental wellfare.

Hence I would like to imagine that the RSPCA will intervene on cruel market practices, but I woun't hold my breath.
