Thanks PA for coming in here. Some of us have been asking for you to do this for a while and we know you are busy but now appreciate your input/advice and experience. I dropped out of this discussion maybe 10 to 12 months ago as the discussion seemed to become an argument and that is not what I believed the forum was all about. I have great respect for members that offer advice and knowledge and experience. I have only the greatest respect for Ace/Livio and am in debt to him for some af the advice that he has given me. What we are all striving for is answers and ways to improve our breeding. Is it better to listen to someone who has been breeding 30 years putting in an hour a day with the same outcome or someone who has been breeding for 5 years and putting 10 hours a day doing research and development on programs to advance the different colourations in Guineas in Australia? I dont know as both have a fountain of knowledge to offer and I would hope, that through this forum, I would be able to tap into both without any animosity.
I am glad PA that you have confirmed a point that I have questioned. As far as you know and that I know from a LOT of research that Australia at the moment is the only home to red eyed cinn/silver guins. I have had correspondace with several guinea geneticists from arround the world and these are professors in genetics specialising inbirds and specifically in guineas. They have never herd or seen a red eyed guinea, silver or cinnamon.
From my research the cinnamon gene is related to the buff or dundote that is in the US but with the recessive gene that produces the red eye. I believe that this is a partial albanism and why we have this singular trait in Australia can only be a mystery.
I recently returned to Africa where I lived for 11 years and saw my first Lavender Guins in the forecourt of the Victoria Falls Hotel. This must have been through inter breeding as I had never seen a Lav in the wild.

I am continuing as I think It is relevent. I have posted my introduction to cinnamons and have never got a complete and adequate answer re sex linked or recessive. I think that PA may have clarrified this as he is expressing that Cinnamon is "Sex Linked -Recessive, controlled mutant" So those that are are saying sex linked are correct and those that are saying recessive are also correct.

I would like an aswer from PA, Ace, and any other contributer to the forum. I have posted this before but have never had a conclusive answer. From all the people that know please tell me as I am realy wanting to know.
Flock of guins, all pearl, pearl pied,lavender and lavender pied. No other guins whithin 50 miles .Many eggs collected and incubated result apart from normals,30 cinnamons 12 hens and 15 cockbirds.
Please explain the sex linked and recessive from that. Also please explain how the red eye and cinnamon got into our birds and not to the birds who went to the rest of the world.

Hi scorpartus, you are absolutely right both have much to offer on all levels and we welcome anyone with input into their experiences whether it is 2 years or 20 years and we wrote in our previous post we would like to see that animosity put aside permanently.



Sire: Pearl/cinnamon (pl,WW+c/m) Dam: Lavender (i) (as the possible and likely paring in your case)
Possible progeny in no fixed percentage and excluding (G) and (GT)
Phenotype Cinnamon both sexes. (note this pairing produces a phenotype of lavender suffusion in feather pattern which is more prevalent in the mantle, flanks and chest)

It has long been believed Guinea fowl genetics are the same as Peafowl but we believe in the case of red eye cinnamon this is not the case as breeding outcomes defy the gene chart as it stands today. We have extensively studied peafowl genetics for a great many years and feel we have one of the best understandings in Australia but we have not extensively studied guinea fowl genetics nor has anyone else. Our findings are based on over 30 + years of breeding guinea fowl and collectively 50 years in fowls so we are confident of our findings from controlled breeding but no genetic testing has ever been carried out on Cinnamon Guinea Fowl so no one can say 100%



Unfortunately there are no records of the red eye's first appearance only speculation if first appeared on a farm in South Australia? There was also the theory that Vulturine may have played a part but that is not possible as the hybrid is sterile. So we can only put it down to self Mutation within Australia and may end up appearing in other countries at some stage?

I would like to thank Admin, other moderators and the 12 members for their advice and guidance but above all their support both on the forum and in private messages. As for the rift well its alive and well sorry pa but the bullies love to argue on that site

Kids will be kids Ace especially those still wet behind the ears. Should have thanked pa for his post in my last post its funny that in your 1 post there has more information than all the posts combined on that other site about guinea fowl but thats logic when you have more knowledge, experience than all of them combined and some. Best where possible to ignore their rubbish I think they can't learn with ears so wet..... har har!!

Keep up the great job Livio you are the only moderator of an oz guinea fowl forum that knows what you are talking about and we have all learnt heaps from you. Thanks PA for giving the facts on the cinnamons I enjoyed reading it a few times now.
