Sometimes the internat can be a bad thing as anyone can say anything to try to get the spot light  a good example is in my post above. At least the majority are reading this site so they will get the right info and not led down the garden path th_Noooo.gif

By the looks they are young kids so it should be expected I guess. I was amused by the gene symbols not very imaginative or even close. I would like to talk about pied cinnamons so I will start a new topic

At least there is a lot of interest in silver and cinnamon which has to be a good thing and we all have to take the good with the bad

Yes there is allot of interest but my concern is all the false info on the chooky site that may mislead kids even though only 1 is every only viewing and many days can pass without a post it its 1 too many ;) at least 99% read APF so I guess that will have to do for now

Thanks PLPheasants I don't mind too much its just some can't comprehend breeding and genetics and to compensate will make up fantasy breedings ect... on chook sites   even if they have guinea fowl and if they ever breed 1 they will not be WOMAN enough to admit they are wrong to save face so I am not wasting time on those types. Also to be honest they are so so boring, seriously boring, the most boring people on the planet, seriously [smilie=yawn2.gif] [smilie=yawn1.gif] [smilie=yawn2.gif] [smilie=sleep.gif] [smilie=sleep.gif] [smilie=sleep.gif] [smilie=sleep.gif] [smilie=sleep.gif]

So PLPeasants do you have many cinns ect..

Hi everyone, we have been asked to weigh in on the debate regarding cinnamon guinea fowl and specifically the geno and inheritance. Before we start we would ask that everyone concerned take a chill pill and relax there is no need or gain by personal remarks from ANYONE on any side of the fence. We applaud the passion shown by all involved in the debate and respect must be shown to anyone with the passion for breeding as shown by drayllor, danny boy and Livio but the 3 of you need to step back and take a few deep breaths.

Now we have read the screen shots sent and applaud the work you guys are doing and the drive you have and that should never be shot down by anyone whether you are right or wrong the fact you are experimenting is the best way to learn so keep it up.
Cinnamon guinea fowl have never been genetically studied and therefore we all must base the outcomes on our own breeding and combined breeding results and that result will vary according to the specific birds used for breeding. From our breeding of cinnamon guinea fowl over the 30 plus years we have concluded that cinnamon guinea fowl are Sex Linked-Recessive controlled-mutant (c/m) as we call it, in addition we believe the (c/m) is a lethal gene but with only 1 copy and therefore has the affect of eye sight issues to a varying degree and loss of feather pigment in some guinea fowl. This also happens in one peafowl mutation to our knowledge and can lead to total blindness in some and death. We do believe the sun plays apart in exasperating the issue as red eyes are sensitive to bright light so plenty of shade is recommended.

So we come to pairings and outcomes and this is not black and white as we talk about possible outcome rather than fixed outcomes. To make things less confusing, we will use simplified code not talking into account W superscript and micro genes which are in play here.

Sire: Pearl/cinnamon (pl,WW+c/m) Dam: Pearl (pl)
Four possible outcomes can present in the progeny in no fixed percentage
Pearl/Cinnamon
Pearl cock
Pearl Hens
Cinnamon
Four basic loci (locations on chromosomes) where genes reside and determine the feather patterns are in play here

We will post a full chart of breeding combinations including silver and cream when we have a little more time

It is important to remember that red eye in both phenotype silver and genotype cinnamon are unique to Australia and what you read on foreign sites does not apply here and the exact genotype for cinnamon in not known at this stage and we hope to commission a gene study in the future to get a definitive answer.

All the above is based on our opinion and experience of breeding hundreds of cinnamon and silver guinea fowl over 30 + years

Just remember when it comes to sex-liked fowl the Sex-linked traits act just like recessive ones except flex to the will of the sex

We have sent Ace a message requesting he edit some of his posts to reflect the respect of others and their right to an opinion, we ask others do the same as it serves no purpose on any site.

Thanks
P.A
:-D
