have a young male pied who i wish to breed from and have a very good pied hen wich is his mothers sister would it be safe to breed them together or would it cause possible inbreeding problems?

Hi bushboy, Yes you can and this can be benificial to increasing stable (P) markers in Pieds as the two genes needed to produce Pied are (P) to control random markings & (W) to control white. Line breeding works because they inherit half (50%) the genes from each parent. So in the first mating the progeny get half their genes from their mother and half from their father. If you cross the progeny back to their parent the progeny already has half the genes the parent has. So the progeny of that inbred cross inherit 75% genes from the parent and have only 25% of the genes from the grandparent. In the second backcross to the parents 87.5% of the genes in the resulting progeny come from the parent. You will then need an out-cross with 50% or (less preferred) common genes.

By line breeding you have a much better chance of getting something that looks like the parents. The problem is that the parents may be heterozygous (have two different copies of the same gene) and will keep segregating these two copies in all of their progeny. You will still be more likely to reproduce other aspects of the bird, but what the birds Phenotype will depend on whether heterozygous is present.

Line breeding can be a long process, but knowing the origins of the original breeding stock will help, for example knowing if the birds you purchase are related, even distantly is important.

Note:
Do not exceed the second back-cross, you must introduce an out-cross
White Peafowl should not exceed single back cross, then use a Split for out-crossing
Do not mate 100% Brothers & Sisters
