Hi all. Our baby is nearly three months old. His Dad is pied and mum is plain blue. We assume he is a boy as he has the markings on his back feathers. PA, I remember when we had our very sick boy, Andrew, that you said the immature males have a black breast and white further down. This boy has two white small marks on his back and has had a yellow/white breast from birth. Is this pied, or do they look like girls from the front when young. I seem to remember looking at immature ones at a market and they were speckled ALL over when young. Just we want to sell him and don't want any comebacks. Someone else told us he would be a pied. Hope everyone is doing fine. The guy looking for white peas... we have one, Vic and one, the boy??? got taken by a fox/ owl.... not sure what. We have two more booked this year and she did have another one. We also got our pied girls from her. Thanks and cheers. Pam

No, don't know how to do all that stuff and hubby isn't here so can't show me. He is getting green further down his neck and his back is really patterned. I took him to our local auction and advertised him as a male. A lady said he was a female and she wanted a female. She has had them herself in large numbers. I said she was welcome to take the chance!!! She didn't.
A note on auctions. Went to Euroa... more hanky panky from the same dealer we had the hassles with. He bought in three young "peahens" and attempted to auction them as girls. Two had completely patterned backs. I remonstrated with a steward and he said "Oh well, You can't tell at this age". I said, "Well they should be sold as sex undetermined. He said they would be, but meantime the dealer saw us chatting and strolled over and said through gritted teeth that they were hens. They were put up by the auctioneer as hens, and he knows better. Needless to say, no-one bought them. A 4 month old pied male went for $45 and two same age plains for $22 each, to the same dealer.

The other lie was embarrassing. An agressive male Japanese quail had attacked two others in the cage and severely injured them. The seller removed the worst one, with the top of its head gone, and left the other one in there, with its eye gone. The same steward said that the one with the eye gone had flown up and hit the roof of the cage and would be all right. I am sure he knew.

I just can't see why people have to lie at auctions. People will buy stuff when yo tell the truth, and if they buy on lies they are going to get upset and not return. Anyway, cheers to everyone. Pam
