Look-A-Like Elliots Pheasant

Supposedly there a breeders that have figured out that if you cross a Reeves with a Ring Neck you will get chicks in which the male looks very close to the Elliots Pheasant Male, but he is infertile. The hens are just a dappled brown.

Now i dont really agree with the crossbreeding of pheasants in Aus, or anywhere for that matter, but do we have any members on the forum that have both species and would be willing to test it out?, even if it is just a few eggs but it would be interesting none the less, we could get sought of a monthly photo diary going and it could be a learning experience for all.

It's only my opinion but intentional hybridising should be up there with treason(A hanging offence) But to each his own. The largest problem I find with this is if it works,is the unscrupulous out there will sell them as Elliots and then where do we stand. It took me long enough to find pure bred Amhurst.(On another similar note I've been chasing pure Aberdeen finch (Red headed finch) for I can't think how long now and I keep getting offered Cut-throat/Red headed hybrids. I don't wish for what we have left in the pheasant world to suffer the demise of hybridisation like the Aberdeen finch has)

Unfortunatly with our extremely strict quarantine restrictions, some people have no choice but to cross-breed to keep the survival of that species. Plain-backed Sparrows is a good example...the only birds left are unfortunately cross-bred with House Sparrows

It doesn't help when money hungry selfish so & so's keep exporting our good exotic species...Cuban Grassquits for example...

Haven't a problem to save a specie, as long as honesty prevails, and the persons are doing it to save the specie not for $$$$$$$$.

Maybe you could find a forum that has people that already have hybrids and specialise in hybrids? I am sure you can find it
