I wasn't aware that I was being sarcastic! I post my phone number because I have limited time on the computer and frankly get tired of writing on it. I have had a stroke affecting my right side and hence hit two keys at the same time etc. so I have to spell check everything. One can email back and forth endlessly and still not be understood. As we have a bulk bill thing it is often easier for me to return a call as I can speak at any time without getting charged extra.

I do not claim to be an expert but PA when they are busy often give a standard answer and it is not really suitable for our cold southern climate. Rather than have the person suffer grief I like to tell them privately without discrediting PA that it is not appropriate to incubate and bring them up under heat in Vic. As I always remind people we are not discussing a trade commodity but animals. I only know of one person who has successfully incubated and brought to adulthood peacocks in Vic and he is an expert in rare bird breeding. I find it doesn't matter how long one has been involved with any animal that I can still learn every day.

And it is amazing that once it was always the same people posting and in the last year there have been heaps and heaps of new people. And it is amazing that I get about 6 calls a week now wanting to buy. My ad in the Trading Post online says that I don't have any for sale at present but I am happy to help people. I also stipulate that THEY DON"T HAVE TO BUY FROM ME to get help from me. I also refer people all the time to other breeders closer to them so the bird doesn't have to travel. Last season I sold heaps of birds for other people at no charge. I have a list of people looking for birds and a list of people who have them. I figure I am a facilitator!!! I don't have any trouble selling mine so I am happy to pass requests on. I frequently have a pen full of stock and have sold all of someone else's for them, so I do myself out of sales all the time. I don't ever feel it is a competition, more a co-operation to ensure animals' well-being.

When people ring or email or text I answer their specific questions and also refer them to Brow Farm as I believe that to be a very easy article for people to read, funny, informative and true, and I also refer them to the Peacock Chat Room on PA. I ask them to do this homework before they invest money and in ignorance lose their animal. It happens that Martin Chaunce from Brow Farm put my article I wrote for Aust Poultry up on his website. I didn't ask him to.... he asked me. Where did I get the Brow Farm website from in the first place????? PA!!!!!

One thing I didn't explain properly is that I have a running ad in Trading Post online. Whereas I used to get a call a week I get 5 or 6 now.... there seems to be an increasing interest in the birds or maybe just more people have internet access. Lots of people are just asking for help with problems they are having but a huge number wish to start with peas. Pam

They should all join apf, it's only logical

6 is a good start for a yearling Craig it should increase next year

the one that had the 8 eggs is 4 year old
that one that has 3 eggs is 1 or 2 years old

Hi all, how many eggs, well it solely depends on the age of the Peahen, Diet, Weather, Health, ect... for a 3 year old Peahen you should expect 6 to 10 eggs. For a Peahen 4 or more years old then 8 to 10+ is quite normal but it will depend on what we wrote at the start.
