Hello there congratulations on the webpage/forum.
It will be good to read other peoples experiences with peafowlin THIS country...
I am in NSW Wilton, near Picton, and have about 14 peafowl, all Indian Blues (unfortunately), three are penned and the rest free range.
Some are pied but mostly normals.
I also have some for sale if anyone is interested......

I hatched a fair few in an incubator this year as well.
I would be interested in others experiences in doing this.

I definately done register for the most peafowl. I have 7 at the moment. 1 adult white male, 1 adult dark pied IB male, 1 Juv dark pied/split white male and 4 unrelated hens. None are allowed to roost free anymore due to behavioural problems.

Hi Buggsy, Thanks for your complements, we hope this forum becomes popular as we like most birdie people, love talking birds! We have a few varieties of Peacocks but we still love our blues. If you don't mind, can I ask why you have 3 of your 14 pened? We have had good success with our incubators (2 x bellsouth 100-Tropical) but we have had some problems with the first hatched feeding properly. when I have more time I will post what we feed our birds and more on our experience with incubation.

P.s mrpeabody, you may only have 7 but you no what they say, "Quality is better than Quantity" and you have very nice varieties.

Thanks

I almost forgot to add that my parents recently brought a new 7 acre property. We are not living there, the previous owners rent back, however, for years there has been a resident peafowl population here. At present there are 8 males, 5 females and one young from last season. I think the females get picked off heavily by foxes. They are all Blues, with some white feathers seen in the primaries of certain birds. So I guess we own a few more peafowl now I think about it. :)

I keep 3 of them penned cos they were "older" when I got them.
Older birds don't seem to bond with your property as much as younger birds.
My first pair were penned up for about 6 months and when i let them out they gradually roamed further and further until eventually they never returned at all.
The young ones hang around the yard, eat all the vegie garden and poop all around the house.
That is the only down side as they love looking at themselves in the windows.
Luckily the wife does a good job of cleaning up after them.........

Sorry to post this in the wrong bit but I seem to be having problems posting anything at all today. This is my third attempt to give my opinion on this subject.
My adult male that is penned up has a white flight feather and one or two tiny white feathers under his throat...(I'll try and get a photo).
One of the two hens also has one or two white flight feathers and I hatched out 3 beautiful pied with 50/50 colouring this year from them.
So I am sure it can be done so stick with it.
When I work out how to send you some digital photos I will do so.
Glad to see that you are getting a few responses.....
I wonder if the Java Greens can be free ranged..(Who would dare?)
We will all be waiting for some to come up for sale I think...

From what I have read, birds with some white just under the chin and on the primaries are called Dark Pied. They carry the pied gene but it is not expressed fully, kind of like a split. Birds with white primaries are usually split for white, but may also be dark pied. I hatched a loud pied chick from a hen that was normal with 2 white wing feathers only, the male was either the white or the blue with white primaries. My guess is that she was spliut for pied and the white male helped produce a loud pied. Loud pied is when there is alot of white and less blue.

Yes, I call birds with over 50% white "loud pied".
Are your pied Java peafowl from pure Pavo muticus muticus lines? I have heard of spauldings that are pied etc, but not pure Java pied.
Cheers Matt
