Friends of the erstwhile best breeder of JGs only managed to breed 2 last year and they had help. I think if someone has the money and the ability to keep a rare bird, to buy something like that it is no different to people paying heaps for parrots, pheasants etc. It is probably someone's lifelong passion and they are glad to give that kind of money for it. I know people who have waited for years to get them. The person who bought those so called "blues" most likely knows what she is doing and has the knowledge to further the breed and aren't we glad that someone is making the effort so maybe in the future people don't have to pay that kind of money for them. There are people who have private collections and work really hard to improve the availability of rare breeds. I have seen people pay heaps and heaps for chooks and ducks at auctions and they are generally a bit easier to breed than JGs!! So good on you whoever bought the hen and I sincerely hope you have really good luck with breeding her and I am guessing that a lot more than luck and money goes into your work!!!! Cheers, Pam

Sorry, forgot to add and good on you mcrilley for getting that much for her and sending her to someone who is obviously going to work very hard and treasure her. Pam

Who???? Best breeder - why????

[quote="Pam"]The person who bought those so called "blues" most likely knows what she is doing and has the knowledge to further the breed.[quote]
Don't think so, Pam he or she made a fool of them selves by posting crap and pa caught them out   more money than sense I.M.O but it does push the price up doesn't it ;)

Maybe I should advertise my Smith Lavender Pekins for say $2,000 and then make it a standard price for my top lavender line ;)
Cheers Drew Smith

I'm with you drew a ridiculous price on both occasions :-? It just serves to up the prices but the person who paid $5,000.00 for those off colour blues won't get his money back, ever, silly I think.

Hi Dysart, Mike is a member of APF and we sold him the pair of Java's as juveniles about 3 years ago. We offered to sell him a peacock to replace the one killed but he is very disheartened by the incident. We have since spoken to Mike and he was genuinely shocked by the offer as that was not the price he expected, must be something in the water at the moment

Thanks
P.A :-D

I wouldn't pay that sort of prices for birds worth 1/3 that price or less in the case of those blues
