I have managed to extract 10 Gold laced Barnavelder eggs out of my mate Tony , For the 'Fill Greenaus's pens Foundation' after grumbling for a week ....... I don't sell eggs . I've hardly got enough for myself , Your always telling me I shouldn't sell eggs etc etc . He finally walked into work one day and muttered , " I spose I can always get my line back if anything ever happens to mine" and gave me ten Barnie eggs
Add them to the dozen or more I'll have for you , and your well on the way 8)
See you on saturday a_bravo.gif

Thanks Ian. You're one of those two mates that are providing what can only be described as very special eggs and at giveaway prices. I really do appreciate it.

The other mate does sell his eggs and at prices that used to make my eyes bulge. He has over 2 doz collected so far with maybe close to four dozen by the weekend and has asked that I not tell anyone the price I'm paying (or not paying).

Of course, what goes around comes around. I "may" have done a thing or two for him and/or I "may" do a few more things for him.

There's another 2 dozen from a breeder within 50km of here.

There's another 2 dozen being posted from a breeder down south.

A bit of a count up and I think I am closing in on the 10 1/2 dozen needed to fill the incubator.

10 1/2 dozen is what it holds "very comfortably", it can hold another 42 above that. So if anyone out there is thinking of making a last minute decision, don't hold back.

A big thanks to those who are either providing eggs or would have if they could have.

It probably won't be filled, but I reckon it'll come close.

I reckon you'll be having scrambled eggs for dinner because you can't fit them all in your bator , Hint, Hint ;)

I get the feeling I may have underestimated the number I'm bringing home tomorrow.

I thought I was picking up 2 dozen eggs from Ipswich today. I brought home three dozen.

I was doing a bit of a count Friday afternoon, including those still to come. A few short of 10 dozen, I realised there was now the Australorp eggs (16 and counting) that I'll be hatching out and taking to a mate's place.

BUT...good news. There is still a fourth shelf in the incubator that can be used. Another 42-56 eggs. I didn't notice it until I was lining the (three) shelves with the anti-slip matting.

I haven't finalised the count yet. I ran out of fingers counting them individually. I then counted by dozens and still ran out of fingers.

A mental count (the count, not me) brings the total to a mind blowing...maybe 15 dozen by the time the ones arrive from down south.

This includes my Australorp eggs which I hadn't planned to incubate at all, then I decided I would, but now I think I can't. They may be incubated at their new home.

The temp isn't as stable in the Kevatron as I would like, but it is still empty. In the past it has been turned on about the same time as eggs have gone in. The temp probe usually sits between two eggs and switches the heat on/off based on shell temp, rather than mid-air like it is now.

Before I head for bed I might put a few of the eggs in that I picked up on Friday...a few dozen.

Breeds in no particular order...
Buff Orpington (by far the most eggs)
Light Sussex
White Wyandotte
Orpington (Black & Blue over Black, Blue, Splash, and Cuckoo)
Australorp (Hudson & Brown)
Gold Laced Wyandotte
Coronation Sussex
White Orpington
Plymouth Rock
Barnevelder
Buff Sussex

..and maybe a breed or two I missed.

Finished loading the eggs into the incubator tonight. Current shelves are close to capacity.

Two White Wyandotte eggs that had gone in late last night were bad. One was leaking.

I also discovered two Light Sussex eggs had busted yolks. I noticed a light thud as I tipped each back and forth. If they weren't busted before, they were after they hit the driveway.

I'm really worried that other off eggs may leak or explode and contaminate a bunch more...then there would be the smell. I may have to leave the incubator open a little longer each time I turn the eggs and check a section of eggs each time, rather than trying to do it all at once or ignoring the risk altogether.

I tried to distribute the breeds throughout the incubator so that if a shelf or area is too hot or cold and nothing hatches there, I don't wipe out an entire breed.

There are another 24 arriving late this week and it is now clear that I will have to line the remaining shelf with anti-slip matting and build a new rolling rack.

I'm not going to incubate any of my own Australorp eggs in there, but I have a plan which would still see them go to the person they were promised to. He'll have to incubate them.

I gave 6 Buff Orpington eggs and 2 of my Australorp eggs to a guy today who needed them to put under a clucky hen. It's going to be his daughter's school project.

You will smell the eggs before they burst! The only painful bit of this is, you will have to smell each egg to find the stinkers
Congrats on the success of scoring the eggs & sorry I couldnt help this time round.
